Sonu Sood has become a messiah for the stranded migrants amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Now the handsome actor has come out in support of the students appearing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) medical entrance exam and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to the IITs. Amidst the Coronavirus scare, the students have been demanding the government to postpone the exams.

Sonu has urged the government to not risk the student’s life given the current situation in the country.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Sonu wrote, “It’s my request to the government of India, to postpone the #Neet/#JEE exams in the current situation of the country! In the given #COVID19 situation, we should care utmost & not risk the lives of students! #PostponeJEE_NEETinCOVID (sic).” The actor even tagged the Education Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet.

The ‘Dabangg’ actor shared another tweet that reads, “Students appearing in JEE and NEET come from far and remote areas. Some districts in Bihar are facing floods while others are under complete lockdown. Yes, exams are essential but saving our young talents is equally essential. The entire world has come to a standstill, exams should also be postponed (sic).”

Speaking about the plight of students, Sonu told NDTV, “I am also an engineer. I believe that it is very important for the country to have a new breed of these young people who are going to take over a lot of departments. Give them a window of two months. We need to postpone the exams till November-December. Students can take the exams when they are mentally prepared.”

Swedish teen climate change activist Greta Thunberg also urged the Indian government to postpone the exams in view of the pandemic.

“It’s deeply unfair that students of India are asked to sit national exams during the Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme floods. I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE_NEETinCOVID,” Greta tweeted.

Amidst the growing demand to postpone the exams, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has stated that the exams will be held as per the schedule.
